Where to Let Your Dog Off Its Leash in Port Stephens

Port Stephens is definitely the winner when it comes to fenced, off-leash areas. With fenced dog parks at Medowie, Raymond Terrace, Fingal Bay and Soldiers Point, plus a dog-only beach at Corlette, there is no shortage of places to take your four-legged friend for an off-leash run in Port Stephens.

Aliceton Reserve, Karuah

If you live in the area, or you’re on a day trip or a trip north with your doggo, Aliceton Reserve on Engel Avenue is a beautiful, large, shaded area to visit and run your dog leash-free.

Alton Park, Raymond Terrace

A large, grassed area to exercise and play with your dog. Access is off Alton Road, Kanwary Close or Henning Road.

Bagnalls Beach, Corlette

This beach is especially for dogs. Leash-free 24 hours. A beautiful, sandy beach with shallow, calm water for your furry friend to swim. Lots of parking, shade and great views of the Bay.

Billy Beach, Mallabula

Another beautiful, shallow beach for your dog to run, swim and play with other dogs. Leash-free 24 hours. Park at the Caswell Reserve carpark and enjoy the lovely walk along the boardwalk (on-lead) with your dog, before letting them free for a run on Billy Beach.

Boat Harbour North Headland Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area

Access via Kingsley Drive. A beautiful grassy, rocky headland with spectacular views. 

Boomerang Park, Raymond Terrace

Fully-fenced off-leash dog park, with lots of grassy space for your pooch to run, play and socialise with other dogs. Access to the dog park is via the Freeth Street entrance.  

Fern Bay Fully-Fenced Dog Park, Fern Bay

Located on Dune Drive in the Seaside Estate, this fully-fenced and double-gated off-leash dog park has lots of grassed area for your dog to run leash-free. Bins, doggie-bags, seating and water area all available. No shade in the fenced park, but there is in the adjoining undercover picnic area. Kids playground with bubbler nearby. Disabled access.

Fern Bay fully-fenced Dog Park

Fingal Bay Fully-Fenced Dog Park, Fingal Bay

On Marine Drive. A great fully-fenced dog park with lots of space for dogs to run, play and socialise and a ‘bush’ area for them to explore. Plenty of trees for shade, seating, bins and water. 

Fishermans Bay Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area

Access via Pacific Street, Fishermans Bay. A quiet, grassed area for dogs to run off-leash.

Kooindah Park, Lemon Tree Passage

On the foreshore of Lemon Tree Passage. The park, located on Cook Parade, is the start of the dog off-leash area. 

Lancaster Park, Soldiers Point

Fully-fenced dog exercise area located on the corner of Soldiers Point Road and Cromarty Road. A peaceful setting with lots of trees for shade.  

Medowie Fully-Fenced Dog Park, Medowie

Located on Coachwood Drive. A fully-fenced dog exercise area in a peaceful bush setting. Plenty of trees provide shade. A few concrete pipes for the dogs to run around, over and through. Seating, drinking water for dogs, poo bags and bins provided. 

Nelson Bay Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area

On Austral Street. An open, grassed area with plenty of space for dogs to run and chase a ball.

Time-Restricted Off-Leash Areas

Birubi Beach Time-Restricted Off-Lead Dog Exercise Area

Dogs are allowed in the 3km section directly south of Birubi Headland, just not in the patrolled area. Off-leash prohibited between the hours of 9-5pm (daylight savings time), 10-4pm (outside daylight savings time).  

Marrungbanga Reserve, Shoal Bay

Off-leash prohibited between the hours of 9-5pm. Parking on Shoal Bay Road.
